General Motors recalls 232,931 cars in China

Shanghai General Motors Co began recalling 232,931 cars in China Monday to fix faulty fuel lines.

The recall covered 133,074 2-liter and 2.4-liter Regal sedans produced from Sept 18, 2008, to Oct 14, 2010, and 99,857 2.4-liter LaCrosse cars made from April 20, 2009, to Oct 14, 2010, said a statement from the company.

The fault could cause the fuel pipe to break at the joints under extreme conditions and the engine could fail to start or stop working. The oil leaks could also spark fires, it said.

The after-sales service center at Shanghai General Motors would contact car owners to arrange repair work and its 800-820-2020 hotline offered counseling and reservation services, it said.

The carmaker would also recall 2,806 imported Cadillac CTS vehicles in China from March 21 to repair faulty track bars, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said on Feb 14.
