SsangYong has applied for patent for the new Korando SUV for the Chinese market, the vehicle will arrive sometime next year. SsangYong is now in the hands of the Indian conglomerate Mahindra, they hope to do better that the previous biggest shareholder SAIC from China.

SAIC basically messed things up, the only thing they got out of it is the Roewe W5 based on the SsangYong Kyron. The new Korando will be imported, SsangYong does not have a partner for local production in China.

  1. Besides SAIC, Ssangyong has had a number of affiliations in China including Jiangling, Guangzhou Auto, Xindadi(Xunchi), and Huizhong, a subsidiary of SAIC. But none seemed to jell for them. What a pity..
