First spy shots of the Beijing Auto SC20, we have seen the patent application, a new small size SUV that will debut sometime next year, price will range from 50.000 to 70.000 yuan. We think the SC20 is based on the Foton Midi, made by Foton Motor. Both Beijing Auto and Foton Motor are subsidiaries of the Beijing Auto Industry Corporation (BAIC).
Interestingly, Chinese media report today that the SC20 will be made by the Chongqing Yinxiang Motorcycle Group from the great city of Chongqing. Beijing Auto and Yinxiang did indeed sign an agreement for making minicars back in 2010, the agreement was meant to give Beijing Auto access to the booming auto market in southwest China. If true, this SC20 will be the first real product coming out of the agreement. More as we get it…
The Foton Midi, price starts around 50.000 yuan. Size:4288×1725×1728, wheelbase is 2695. Power comes from a tiny 1.3 liter four-cylinder. Foton is big in trucks, vans, pickup trucks and smaller commercial vehicles. The Midi was their first ‘passenger car’ but the market didn’t really want it, mostly because of the Foton brand-name doesn’t really dig out there.
Spare wheel on the back really ‘life style’.
Interior loox very finished, dials kinda sporty, seems a manual here, LCD-screen. Not too bad for the money…
