The Beijing Auto C60 is based on the old Saab 9-3. Beijing Auto bought the rights to the Saab 9-3 and Saab 9-5 from GM in 2009, they also bought the rights to the Saab 2.0 turbo and 2.3 turbo. The C60 will be powered by the 2.0 turbo which will deliver about 204hp.

The C60 will be sold under the Shenbao/Senova brand. It will be positioned under the Beijing Auto Shenbao D-Series, based on the Saab 9-5,  and above the upcoming Beijing Auto C50E.

  1. The C60 was once a C60F, soon to be a C60G, and under the D series. It’s not a Shenbao or a Senova as such, but is under the Shenbao/Senova brand. Yes, that all makes perfect sense. There’s BAIC for you…. I can just hear the customer trying to make the salesman understand what it is that he’s interested in.

  2. I’m getting very confused by BAIC’s branding.

So is Senova now going to be a marque?

In addition to BAW, Foton, Weiwang and Beijing/BAIC Motor?

How will this work as BAIC moves into export markets?

It seems even more strange as Senova seems to have the same logo as Beijing/BAIC. If so this is the same mistake that FAW and Dongfeng have made of using the same logo for different marques.

  3. Beijing’s PR at the Shanghai show was shambolic. They might have a nice looking car but I doubt they will manage to translate it into significant sales unless they get there communications together.
