A very rare and very beautiful Mercedes-Benz W109 280 SEL S-Class, seen in the great city of Shenzhen in Guangdong Province. The vehicle belongs to a manic collector who owns some fifty classic and new Mercedesii. The 280 SEL limousine is painted in mustard yellow and seems to be in a hundred percent perfect condition.

The Mercedes-Benz W109 was produced from 1965 until 1972. The W109 was the long-wheelbase variant of the otherwise identical W108. The 280 SEL was powered by a 2.8 liter ‘M130’ six-in-line with 170hp, good for a 185 km/h top speed.  Transmission was a 4-speed automatic.

The W108/W109 was never officially exported to China in its days. This great yellow car likely arrived in China very recently. Most classic Benzes come to China from the US, sold by dealers on the US West Coast to Chinese dealers and collectors.

  1. There’s also the small matter of the 4.5 badge opposite the 280SEL ?, and the US model lights ? – making it a US import to China ! – tasteful collector !!!

  2. It was products like this that built the Mercedes brand name, allowing them to charge a massive price premium for products which are no longer anywhere near as well built relative to competitors.

  3. How is the status of importing cars in China now? Anybody has any info on this? Consider relocating to China but would love to bring my old timers too….
