New spy shots showing the Geely Emgrand EX8 SUV testing in China,it will be launched on the China car market in December. The Emgrand EX8 is long overdue, it debuted as a concept on the 2009 Shanghai Auto Show, and hasn’t changed much since then.

The Emgrand EX8 will be Geely’s largest SUV, it will be positioned above the  Geely Englon SX7/Geely GLEagle GX7/Geely Emgrand EX7. Size of the final production car: 4839/1884/1715, wheelbase is 2800. Power will come from a 2.4 liter four-cylinder with 165hp, mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. Price will range from 120.000 to 200.000 yuan

The interior is as exciting as the exterior, but it all seems well-put together. Sporty dials for sure. Shiploads of buttons everywhere. Very old fashioned handbrake lever.

It’s been almost five years since the EX8 debuted, and Geely basically didn’t change a thing. The vehicle doesn’t look too modern and the power plant is simply ancient. It is hard to see why Geely still bothers to bring this Emgrand EX8 to the market.

  1. More costly to produce yes, but I’ll take that hand brake any day over the foot brake.
    How about those Durango-esque front and rear fenders…

  2. Messy incoherent exterior design which doesn’t fit the design language of existing or planned Emgrand products.

    Interior looks very cheap and nasty.

    Complete waste of time.
