Spy shots showing leaked official photos of the Dongfeng Fengshen G29. The new Dongfeng SUV will debut on the 2014 Beijing Auto Show later this month and launch on the China car market in the second half of the year. The G29 is the first SUV under the Fengshen brand.

Design is actually rather good. Headlights go neatly with grille. Shut line over the flank subtle but still strong. Not too much chrome. Wheels about the right size.

The G29 is based on the Nissan Qashqai that is made in China by the Dongfeng-Nissan joint venture. Price of the Qashqai starts at 139.800 yuan and ends at 219.800 yuan. Engines: 1.6 and 2.0.

Interestingly, Chinese media say the D29 will be powered by a 1.6 turbo. The Dongfeng-Nissan joint venture doesn’t produce any 1.6 turbo. The engine could be Dongfeng-developed based on the Nissan 1.6, or they got the engine from the Dongfeng-PSA joint venture that produces several Citroens and Peugeots with a 163hp 1.6 turbo.

The G29 is the second Nissan-based Fengshen after the Dongfeng Fengshen A60 which is based on the old Nissan Sylphy. Price for the G29 is expected to start around 100.000 yuan en end around 140.000 yuan, positioning the new SUV straight in one of the hottest segments of the Chinese car market.

  1. I see Honda CR-V first, then Hyundai Santa-Fe… the Ford Escape on the side and a little BMW-ish back, not bad but not really original

  2. Dunno, looks like a BMW-Acura mashup to me (Acura RDX on the side and angle, BMW on the rear)

    Looks alright, coulda been better.
