This is the facelifted Geely Borui sedan, it will be launched on the Chinese car market next month. The facelift includes a redesigned grille and lights, new bumpers, new mirrors, an updated interior, and a new 1.8 turbocharged engine. But the biggest improvement are probably the wheels; 18 inch is now standard, which makes the Borui looks a whole lot better than before.

Price starts at 119.800 yuan and ends at 224.800 yuan. Engines: the aging 162hp 2.4, a 163hp 1.8 turbo, and the powerful 3.5 liter 275hp V6.

The 2.4 and the 3.5 continue unchanged in the facelifted car. The 1.8 turbo however gets a hefty update and now delivers 184hp and 300mm. The name of this engine is the G-Power, which sounds kinda kinky. Six-speed automatic is unchanged.

Shape of the light didn’t change but the covers did. Bumper is new, in body color and with a shiny strip, pipes are better integrated too.

The interior got a new 10.2 inch screen for the infotainment (was 8 inch) and a new steering wheel. The instrument panel remains analogue and that is somewhat odd as many competitors are moving into fully digital panels.

Graphics would have been okay in 2015 but they look a tad too old fashioned today. However, the infotainment system is equipped with modernities such as Apple CarPlay and Baidu CarLife.

  1. When will Geely start to use the modern Volvo platform and engines? They own it, and they are already preparing the new brand Lynk&Co on the Volvo technology. I’m sure their present products need the modern technology from Volvo – and the engines. 🙂

    • And Volvo announced a lot of new hybrids and full electric models within the next two, three years, and that must be something of an advantage for Geely in China too? And Geely already produce, and will produce new Volvo cars in their new factories in China. So it must be more economical for Geely to take advantage of this ‘inside company’ benefits?

      • And the third argument for this, is that the Volvo Hybrids; i.e. Volvo XC90 Hybrid called T8 if I remember correctly, is too expensive in Europe compared to it’s competitors (i.e. Mercedes, etc.) therefore a much larger production would for sure reduce the costs, and then be more competitive for Volvo also. Even if Volvo is premium brand, there is still a limit for their price. Okay, Lynk&Co is also going to be produced in China, so why – will Geely not take full advantage of this Volvo and Lynk production, even though as a less expensive version, and with a design more adapted Chinese taste? I simply don’t understand it. Is it a matter of capacity for production? Geely normally always do the smart things. And now also owning Lotus and Proton… and the British Taxi’s. Perhaps they are simply growing too fast?
        Anyhow, it is interesting.
