    • Hello Knut,

thanks for your comment, and all your earlier comments. I don’t understand why you ‘refuse’ to use Facebook, but of course that is entirely your choice. For me it works very fine, even from China. I can use any media I want and I reach a new and very large audience. I am not sure yet whether I will stop working on the site (I will never completely close it). I need to fix some issues with the site, most notably the lack of speed. The site’s design dates back to 2009 but the amount of data and visitors the site has to deal with is much bigger now. I have patched up the site several times, but that doesn’t work anymore. So I have to choose between building an all new site, which is expensive, or moving the whole thing to Facebook. The answer would be easy if my site generated enough income, but sadly it doesn’t. Greetings, Tycho.

      • Thanks for your reply and information. Well, I do understand the problem with expenses. But isn’t there more than one way to generate income? In my humble opinion, this is the best site ever with regard to Chinese auto production. It is the one-and-only place to get news quickly and honestly. To lose this would be a disaster.

Well, I don’t agree regarding ‘facebook’. It has several good business models I know, but they are all dishonest. And I will never support this kind of monopoly to my private information.

Please try to ask your carnewschina.com audience for participation, financing, or offer to redirect to Chinese webshops (they pay for that). And also – do representation, and sell your news to other online magazines that doesn’t have their own ‘insider’ in China. After all – China today, is tomorrows world dominant auto industry.

        Anyway – I thank you!

  1. Hi Tycho,

As most of us are living in China (I assume) connecting to a Facebook site is even more annoying than being on the right side of the GFW.

I can access Facebook but it does not let me see the page without setting up an account – and I am actually part of the (proud!) community not being hooked up by Facebook.

Would be a pity to let this site die, a lot of interesting and fun information.

    Cheers,

    bobopopo

    • Hello Bobopopo,

thanks for your comment. Yes, I am in China too, but with a VPN I have no troubles working with Facebook. I don’t really understand why you are proud not to be hooked up, but of course that is entirely your choice. I need to fix some issues with the site, most notably the lack of speed. The site’s design dates back to 2009 but the amount of data and visitors the site has to deal with is much bigger now. I have patched up the site several times, but that doesn’t work anymore. • Hi Tycho,

Thanks for your reply and thanks for keeping this website still up.

I can understand your decision that is fine with me. I simply do not like how everyone is forced into Facebook and for me there is also nothing interesting happening there – I do not care what others do, I have my own life and for networking I use LinkedIn. But maybe I still did not get the point of Facebook…

But thanks anyway for this project, I like you website (and I do not care for site speed; for that I am in the wrong country). 🙂

        Cheers,

        Karsten

        • Karsten, I’m from Norway and I don’t have problem with speed. Real news is more important than speed. 🙂

I totally agree with you, but I believe the site has a large audience world wide. I at least refer to it always when I write on national or int’l blogs etc.
