This is the Chery TJ-1 (internal code name) spied on Chinese streets. As a new compact SUV under the Chery brand, it is marketed as a “light off-road” vehicle. Currently, Chery is seeking the public to help give its TJ-1 an official name and is expected to launch later in July. Chery also advertised the TJ-1 as “the only four-wheel drive in the 100,000 RMB (14,500 USD) class”.
The front grille has a huge rectangular profile supplemented by blackened grid elements and scale-shaped chrome decoration, making the car looks dominant. The upper headlight group has a matrix layout after being lit.
The Chery TJ-1 has a size of 4515/1865/1680mm in length, with a 2675mm wheelbase. From the side, it adopts a suspended roof design and comes with pop-out door handles. It runs on blade-style five-spoke rims.
The rear has a large spoiler with high-mounted brake lights, through-type taillights, and two exhaust outlets.
Chery TJ-1 is expected to launch two models: a 1.6T+7DCT and a plug-in hybrid 1.5T+DHT, available in four-wheel drive. The latter will have a pure electric cruising range of over 100 km and a comprehensive cruising range of 1200 km under full fuel and full charge. Furthermore, it will have a WLTC fuel consumption of 4.5L/100km and comprehensive fuel consumption as low as 1L/100km.
The interior will be available in black and white with minimum physical buttons, a rectangular instrument panel, a 14.8-inch floating central control screen, a head-up display, and a wireless charging pad on the center console. Compute will be supported by a Qualcomm 8155 chip and supports FOTA, facial recognition, and a level 2+ driving assistance system. Other configurations include suede seats, seat heating/ventilation/massage, and a SONY audio sound system.
The four-spoke multifunctional steering wheel has scroll wheels and is covered in leather and chrome-plated trim embellishments.
