BYD is gearing up to launch its anticipated compact SUV, the Yuan UP, in March, and recently unveiled road test photos provide a glimpse into the vehicle’s design and performance. The announcement of the Yuan UP came last year in December.

The Yuan UP is a 5-seater SUV with dimensions measuring 4310/1830/1675 mm and a wheelbase of 2620 mm. UP is the smallest EV in the Yuan series that comprises Yuan Plus (Atto 3) and Yuan Pro crossovers. It offers two powertrain options, similar to BYD Dolphin: a 70 kW motor and a more powerful 130 kW motor. The curb weight varies based on the powertrain version, ranging from 1430 kg to 1540 kg, with a top speed of 160 km/h.

With the release of these new photos, we can see that the Yuan UP has a contemporary design. The closed-type front grille incorporates black decorative panels, with the central insertion of the small seal script “Yuan” logo, showcasing the cultural significance of being named after famous Chinese ruling dynasties. The elongated headlights on both sides seamlessly connect with the front grille, creating a sense of layering. The front bumper adds to the vehicle’s dynamic appearance.

Turning to the side profile, the Yuan UP has other noteworthy elements. The vehicle adopts a concealed door handle design, a popular, clean-looking aesthetic found on many popular EVs today. The addition of black decorative panels and chrome elements at the bottom enhances the off-road atmosphere and adds three-dimensionality to the side profile. As for the rear, the through-type taillights, along with the large-size diffuser, enhance the overall smooth look of the vehicle. It’s worth mentioning that the rear emblem adopts the BYD logo, different from the small seal script “Yuan” style used in the front, maintaining overall consistency while highlighting the brand’s characteristics.

As the new energy vehicle market evolves, there is anticipation that when the BYD Yuan UP is launched in March, it will carve its niche in the compact SUV segment. With its clean design, popular dimensions, and efficient power features, the Yuan UP will contribute to BYD’s product diversity. The market will be keen to observe how the Yuan UP performs and resonates with consumers once officially introduced.
