The Yep originally launched as a three-door SUV last year, the Yep Plus is a larger five-door version which carries on the square box design language of the original which blends classic hardcore off-road looks with urban cornered design. The design claims to create the golden ratio with regard to dimensions. It measure in at 3996, 1760 and 1726 mm (l/w/h), and the wheelbase is 2560 mm which still keeps the car at just under 4 meters despite being considerably bigger than the original Yep. Price is expected to be around 100,000 yuan (13,850 USD).

Design wise the five-door Yep Plus is similar to the original Yep at both the back and front with what Baojun describes as zebra lights at the front and track lights at the back. It comes with automatic headlights which use 184 LEDs giving a low beam angle of >45° and a high-beam illumination distance of 178 m. At the back there is a side-opening tailgate which incorporates 12 liters of storage. Judging from the lifestyle shot there should be a reasonable amount of luggage space in the back. A roof mounted luggage rack comes as standard which helps with the leisure possibilities of the Yep Plus.

Despite looking like the electric successor to Suzuki’s small SUVs the Yep Plus is only rear-wheel drive. Ground clearance when fully loaded is 150 mm and the turning radius is 5.35 m.

The Baojun Yep Plus rides on 16-inch low-rolling resistance tires. Baojun claim that due to the dual-piston brake calipers that braking response is faster, the braking distance is shorter, and the braking force is more linear, bringing a safer and more stable travel experience relative to other vehicles in the class.

Baojun started life as a new brand under Wuling in 2010 with sales beginning in 2011. Cars were initially cobbled together from the General Motors parts bin, Wuling is a joint venture with GM having 44% ownership, SAIC 50.1% and the remainder under the actual Wuling company. Baojun now only produces small EVs although it formerly also produced ICE cars up to about mid-size. Sales of the three door Yep began in May and over the course of last year Baojun sold 14,683 of them.
