Haval’s Second-Generation Big Dog Hi4 plug-in hybrid SUV officially entered the market with a price tag of 179,800 yuan (24,900 USD).
The appearance of the new car did not change much. The front face is designed with a matrix structure polygonal grille inlaid with the blue Haval logo, paired with round headlights.
The rear also remains largely unchanged, except with the addition of a new “Hi4” tail badge. Positioned as a light off-road SUV, the Haval Second-Generation Big Dog Hi4 has a ground clearance of 200 mm, an approach angle of 24°, a departure angle of 30°, and supports seven driving modes including economy, sports, mud, and sand. The tire specifications have been upgraded to 245/55.
In addition, there are 22 sensors to realize advanced driving assistance capabilities, including 12 ultrasonic radars, five millimeter-wave radars, and five cameras.
Consumers can choose from five exterior colors, namely, gray, white, black, orange, and brown. The size of the car measures 4705/1908/1780 mm, and the wheelbase is 2810 mm.
Inside, the cockpit features a 14.6-inch central control screen, a 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel, a HUD (head-up display), and a four-spoke steering wheel. A row of physical buttons is retained below the central control screen.
Other configurations include wireless charging for mobile phones, voice recognition, OTA updates, WiFi hotspot connection, and mobile APP remote control, which can remote control seat heating/ventilation, lights, air conditioning, etc.
The standard layout can seat five people and the standard truck volume is 483 L. The truck volume can be expanded to 1,362 L after the rear row is folded down.
Power comes from Great Wall Motor’s Hi4 plug-in hybrid system composed of a 1.5T engine and dual motors, mated to a 2-speed DHT. The 1.5T engine (model GW4B15E) has a maximum power of 123 kW, a peak torque of 243 Nm, and a thermal efficiency of 41.5%. The maximum power of the front and rear motors is 70 kW and 150 kW, respectively; with a comprehensive torque of 750 Nm. The 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time is 6.3 seconds. Furthermore, its 19.09 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack provides a pure electric cruising range of 102 km (NEDC). DC fast charging is also supported.
