On March 29, BYD announced that its Yuan UP all-electric SUV received more than 20,000 orders within three days of launch. Currently, the BYD Yuan series has two models on sale, Yuan PLUS and Yuan Pro.

BYD Yuan UP was launched on March 26 with a price range of 96,800 – 119,800 yuan (13,400 – 16,600 USD). Consumers can choose from three models and three exterior colors. As the first small pure electric SUV based on BYD’s e-platform 3.0, the Yuan UP measures 4310/1830/1675 mm, with a 2620 mm wheelbase.

The appearance continues BYD Dynasty’s Dragon Face design language, with the ‘dragon eye’ LED headlights, ‘lucky ring’ LED taillights, and a large panoramic sunroof. From the side, the BYD Yuan UP has a suspended roof, semi-hidden door handles, and runs on standard 16-inch aluminum alloy rims.

Inside, the cockpit layout consists of an 8.8-inch full LCD instrument panel, a 12.8-inch floating central control screen, an 8-inch W-HUD, and a flat-bottom four-spoke steering wheel. It also comes with a built-in BYD DiLink 5.0 operating system. Other configurations include voice control and recognition, OTA updates, wireless charging, remote control parking, NFC key entry, and level 2 advanced driving assistance functionalities.

The driver seat is electrically adjustable in six directions while the passenger seat is electrically adjustable in four directions. The rear row can also be folded down.

The entire series is powered by a front permanent magnet synchronous motor and a Blade battery pack. All models support fast charging, which takes 30 minutes to replenish from 30% to 80%.

  • Entry-level model: 70 kW/180 Nm electric motor, 32 kWh Blade battery pack, 301 km cruising range, 12 secs of 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time
  • Remaining two models: 130 kW/290 Nm electric motor, 45.12 kWh Blade battery pack, 401 km cruising range, 7.9 sec of 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time
