BAIC’s ArcFox αS5 all-electric sedan with 0.1925Cd launched in China

On June 15, ArcFox officially launched its αS5 (Alpha S5) all-electric sedan with a price range of 176,800 – 216,800 yuan (24,400 – 29,900 USD), available in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions. ArcFox is an electric car brand under BAIC established in 2016 targeting the mid to high-end market segment.

The ArcFox αS5 is positioned as a medium-sized sedan, lower than the ArcFox αS, measuring 4820/1930/1480 mm with a 2900 mm wheelbase. Consumers can choose from five exterior colors: Nebula Pink, Vision White, Diamond Black, Arcfox White, and Ice Gray.

The ArcFox αS5 features frameless doors, a fast-back roof, multi-spoke rims, hidden door handles, a ducktail, and an electric spoiler, bringing its official drag coefficient to 0.1925Cd. Additionally, the wheel eyebrows and side skirts are decorated with black trims, and the windows are outlined with chrome trims.

Optional Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires and colored tail labels are also available. The car runs on standard 245/45 R19 tires.

The interior is minimalistic with a microcloud leather-covered dashboard. There is a 15.6-inch floating central control screen with a built-in Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip. An instrument panel is absent, instead, a 68-inch AR-HUD is offered. The operating system is supported by the Lingzhi OS.

Furthermore, the entire series comes standard with a 15-speaker sound system, 256-color dynamic interactive ambient lights, integrated sports velvet seats, 50W wireless charging, keyless entry, and mobile phone remote control capabilities. Advanced driving assistance functions including autonomous parking assist, remote parking assist, lane change assist, front/rear collision warning, and emergency lane keeping are also standard.

Powertrain

Three trims are offered in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. The 708Max and 650Ultra trims feature an 800V silicon carbide platform.

560Max (two-wheel drive)

  • 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time: 6.8 seconds
  • DC fast charging time (30% – 80%): ≤17 min
  • 7kW AC slow charging time (0% – 100%): 12.9 hr

650Ultra (four-wheel drive)

  • electric motors: 390 kW (530 hp)/690 Nm
  • CATL’s ternary lithium battery pack capacity: 79.2 kWh
  • CLTC range: 650 km
  • 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time: 3.7 seconds
  • DC fast charging time (30% – 80%): ≤17 min
  • 7kW AC slow charging time (0% – 100%): 12.9 hr
