The ES sedan was the first car to launch from Chery’s Exeed Exlantix brand. Despite being on sale since 2023, the car has only been available as a BEV. This is set to soon change with the launch of an EREV, and thanks to a government regulator, we now know a lot more about the forthcoming version.
The dimensions of the EREV version are identical to the 2025 model year all-electric version with the car (see specs) measuring 4945, 1978, 1467 (1480) mm (l/w/h) and having a wheelbase of 3000 mm. There are two listings from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, with the lighter recording a curb weight of 2080 kg and the heavier version 2285 kg. Both are available with a choice of either 19 or 20-inch wheels.
Although the car uses the same SQRH4J15 engine as in Chery’s Kunpeng Super Performance Electric Hybrid C-DM system in the Exlantix ES it is only used as a range extender. This means the fifth-generation ACTECO 1.5TGDI engine does not power the wheels. Providing up to 115 kW, it works as an electricity generator, with the actual power to the wheels coming from an electric motor. Unfortunately, the MIIT listing gives us no further information on that motor. We do, however, know that the car will use lithium iron phosphate batteries and that the car has a maximum speed of 180 km/h.
The Exlantix ES utilizes Chery’s E0X platform, which is tailored for electric vehicles and range extenders. We can see from the options lists that there is a provision for a Lidar unit on top-spec versions.
Style-wise, the EREV seems nearly identical to the fully electric version of the sedan. As such it is a fairly sleek design with a drag coefficient of Cd 0.205. The car comes with an electrically deployable rear spoiler, and both the front and rear have through-style lights. It should be noted that in China the car is referred to as the Exeed Sterra ES whereas Exeed Exlantix ES is the export name. Furthermore, we have seen that the export version, at least in the past, had a more aggressive look than the domestic version.
Reports indicate that the range-extended version of the Exlantix will be launched around the end of 2024. Prices currently for the EV version range from 195,900 to 299,900 (27,610 – 42,270 USD), and the EREV will make the ES more affordable. Exports are unlikely until well into 2025. Reports last month indicated that there will be a wagon version of the ES, and speculation at the time revolved around an EREV version.
