Spy shots of a new car from Xpeng have emerged on Weibo on January 8. Internet users have speculated that the new car will be known as the G7. Adding support to the idea that the car is indeed a new Xpeng, the head of the brand’s public relations has hinted that later this week, a “very powerful car” will be disclosed in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) listings.

The new car appears to be only slightly bigger than the current G6 and, judging from the rear, has possibly an SUV coupe style. It’s believed that the new car will use the design language of the P7+.

The new car is likely to emphasize driving comfort, energy consumption, and smart driving. We should expect energy consumption to be in the region of the level set by the Onvo L60 at 12.1 kWh/100 km.

When it comes to smart driving, it is known that Xpeng is planning on moving away from using Nvidia chips, so it is possible that this car will be the first to use a self-developed smart driving chip. The car will definitely have XNGP as standard using the Hawk AI system, which is a purely vision-based system and doesn’t require a Lidar unit.

The Comments from the head of Xpeng’s public relations indicate that the new car may be available in a dual motor form, something that currently the P7+ is not.

Most likely, the G7 will lie some way between the size of the G6 (see specs), which measures 4753, 1920, 1650 mm (l/w/h), and the G9 (see specs), which measures 4891, 1937, 1670 mm (l/w/h).

If, as suggested, the MIIT listing appears this month, then we can expect sales to begin by late Q2. Xpeng will be hoping to have a successful SUV to go with the success it has recently experienced with sedans in the form of both the Mona M03 and P7+.

With exports making up an increasingly important part of Xpeng’s sales the G7 will likely have been designed with international markets in mind.
