On March 5, BYD announced that its Seal EV won the 3rd Japan Annual EV Awards. This is BYD’s second consecutive title after its Dolphin EV won the award last year.

Following closely behind are the Honda N-VAN e: and the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N.

At the same time, it’s worth pointing out that earlier, the BYD Seal won the title of the “Top Ten Best Models” of 2024 – 2025 Japan Car of the Year, awarded by the Japan Car of the Year Selection Committee.

BYD Seal EV entered Japan in 2024, offering rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. EVsmart, the organizer of the award praised that the “BYD Seal EV has won unanimous praise from public voting to industry voting for its extremely beautiful design style and comprehensive performance. It not only demonstrates the excellent performance of pure electric models but also sets an industry benchmark with its high-quality driving experience.”

Positioned as a 4-door sedan, the BYD Seal EV has a length of 4800 mm, a width of 1875 mm, a height of 1460 mm, and a wheelbase of 2920 mm. The design is based on the theme of “the smooth shape of marine animals sailing freely on the sea.”

The model is equipped with an 82.56 kWh BYD Blade battery pack, and the four-wheel drive trim can accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds (5.9 seconds for the rear-wheel drive trims). The entire series also comes with an advanced driving assistance system as standard, according to EVsmart.

For reference, the 2025 BYD Seal EV offers 510 km, 650 km, and 600 km cruising ranges. Under fast charging, it takes 20 minutes to replenish from 30% to 80%.
