On March 21, Great Wall Motor (GWM) opened its second-generation Haval Xiaolong Max plug-in hybrid SUV for pre-sale, offering five trims, with a price range of 138,800 – 176,800 yuan (19,100 – 24,400 USD).

The second-generation Haval Xiaolong Max adopts a brand new look. The front part is equipped with dot matrix headlights made up of 72 LED units that have an illumination distance of 190 meters, making the car highly recognizable. At the rear, the “Brilliant Galaxy” taillights use 332 628nm ultra-red LEDs to create more than 30,000 crystal reflective surfaces. The official also claimed the drag coefficient has been reduced by 0.028Cd.

Positioned as a medium-sized SUV, the second-gen Haval Xiaolong Max measures 4780/1895/1725 mm, and has a 2810 mm wheelbase. Compared with the current Xiaolong Max on the market, the vehicle length has increased by 22 mm and the wheelbase has increased by 10 mm.

The Coffee Pilot Plus intelligent driving assistance system with a pure visual solution is also onboard the vehicle to realize urban and high-speed navigation on autopilot, supported by three millimeter wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and seven cameras. The capabilities include obstacle avoidance, lane change assist, traffic light recognition, and remote control parking.

For the powertrain, GWM’s second-generation Hi4 technology is standard across the entire series, matched with a 2-speed DHT:

  • 85 kW (114 hp)/140 Nm 1.5L engine
  • 70 kW (94 hp)/110 Nm front permanent magnet synchronous motor
  • 150 kW (201 hp)/350 Nm rear permanent magnet synchronous motor
  • 18.74 kWh or 27.54 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack options, corresponding to a CLTC pure electric range of 110 km and 165 km, respectively

The top speed is 180 km/h, the 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time is 6.8 seconds, and the lowest WLTC comprehensive fuel consumption is 0.97L/100km. At this time, the comprehensive range has not been revealed officially.

Under fast charging, it takes 0.33 hr to 0.47 hr to replenish from 30% to 80%, depending on the trims. The slow charging time ranges from 3 hr to 4 hr.

The cockpit is powered by GWM’s self-developed Coffee OS 3 operating system. The dual-screen design is cancelled. Instead, there is a 14.6-inch floating central control screen and an independent 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel, as well as an HUD.

Furthermore, there are 28 storage spaces throughout the interior. The standard trunk volume is 540 L and can be expanded to 1366 L.
