New sightings of Yangwang’s flagship U8 (see specs) SUV’s three-row version have surfaced ahead of its anticipated debut at the Shanghai Auto Show later this month. Based on BYD’s most expensive SUV, the three-row variant, named Yangwang U8L, features elongated wheelbases and redesigned rear sections to accommodate additional seating while maintaining the brand’s distinctive design language. The standard 5-seat version of Yangwang U8 has a 3,050 mm wheelbase, but this extended variant could stretch to around 3.2 meters.

The prototypes preserve the U8’s iconic front grille and pixel-style running lights, along with its roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, retractable door handles, and rear-mounted spare wheel. However, both versions showcase apparent modifications, including extended rear overhangs with an estimated 3.2-meter wheelbase, lengthened rear doors on the U8L, expanded quarter windows, and broader rear wheel arches for enhanced presence.

While full interior details remain undisclosed, the new variant is expected to offer executive seating configurations with upgraded comfort features such as massage and ventilated seats. Enhanced rear passenger amenities will likely complement the current U8’s premium tech package, which includes a 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen, a 22-speaker Dynaudio system, and advanced noise insulation.

Performance specifications should carry over from the standard U8, retaining its formidable 2.0T turbocharged plug-in hybrid system with four electric motors producing 880 kW (1,180 hp) and 1,280 Nm of torque. The powertrain enables a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 3.6 seconds while delivering up to 180 km of electric range under CLTC testing. Engineers have reportedly maintained the sophisticated DiSus-P suspension and torque vectoring systems to preserve driving dynamics despite the increased dimensions.

Positioned to compete with established luxury SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz GLS, these expanded variants will broaden Yangwang’s market reach by targeting affluent family buyers. Pricing is expected to command a premium over the standard U8’s current 1,098,000 yuan (around 151,000 USD) starting price.
The three-row U8L is likely to make its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show 2025 later this month.
