On April 10, Geely Galaxy’s plug-in hybrid sedan, Starshine 8 EM, is opened for pre-sale, offering five trims, with a price range of 139,800 – 173,800 yuan (19,000 – 23,600 USD). The new car is powered by Geely’s self-developed next-generation NordThor plug-in hybrid system, offering 60 km and 130 km CLTC pure electric ranges; and is equipped with the G-Pilot intelligent driving system. The official launch will be in May.

Overall, the Geely Galaxy Starshine 8 has a drag coefficient of 0.25Cd with dimensions of 5018/1918/1480 mm and a wheelbase of 2928 mm. Popular design elements including hidden door handles, frameless windows, slender headlights, through-type taillights, and a fastback shape are present. The car runs on 19-inch rims.

Additionally, the lidar on the front roof combined with five millimeter-wave radars and 10 cameras supports the onboard G-Pilot (Qianli Haohan in Chinese) “map-based” advanced driving assistance solution that relies on high-definition maps. The system has multiple levels including H1, H3, H5, H7, and H9. The highest level H9 will offer urban and highway navigation on autopilot as well as handling over 300 parking assistance scenarios, claimed by Geely. The maximum obstacle avoidance speed can also reach 120 km/h.

Power comes from the NordThor EM-i or EM-P systems, depending on the trims. The EM-P system consists of a 1.5T engine with a maximum power of 120 kW (161 hp) and peak torque of 255 Nm, paired with an electric motor that outputs 160 kW (215 hp) and 350 Nm, bringing the comprehensive system power to 280 kW (375 hp) and maximum torque to 605 Nm; mated to a 3-speed DHT. The official acceleration time from 0 – 100 km/h takes 6.49 seconds and the moose test speed is 80 km/h.

As for the EM-i system, it is equipped with a 82 kW (110 hp) 1.5L engine and an electric motor, mated to a single-speed DHT. The 18.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack provides a pure electric range of 130 km and a comprehensive range of 1,600 km, based on reports from Chinese social media Autohome. The other powertrain parameters have not been revealed at this time.

The cockpit adopts a two-spoke flat-bottom screen, an instrument panel, a 25.6-inch AR-HUD, and a 15.4-inch central control screen, equipped with the Flyme Auto cockpit system, which can realize AI voice control interaction, integrated with DeepSeek’s model.

The internal 23-speaker Flyme Sound system includes two headrest speakers. Two 40W wireless charging pads for mobile phones are on the center console.

The panoramic sunroof has an area of 1.36 m2. At the same time, the co-pilot seat has a “lie flat” function, which can be laid flat 180°.

The “executive” rear seats have a cushion length of 536 mm, a maximum longitudinal movement distance of 100 mm, and a maximum backrest angle of 131°. There are also 28 storage spaces throughout the interior, including a 405L trunk space that can hold six 20-inch suitcases.

Geely Galaxy sold with nearly 260,000 vehicles from January to March this year.
