This is the Hongqi H5 plug-in hybrid sedan, available in two trims with a pre-sale price range of 185,800 – 199,800 yuan (25,300 – 27,300 USD). The blind order was opened earlier on March 18. For reference, the Hongqi H5 currently on the market offers 1.5T and 2.0T gasoline-powered engine options.
Positioned as a mid-size sedan, the Hongqi H5 PHEV measures 4988/1875/1500 mm, and the wheelbase is 2920 mm. Consumers can choose from three exterior paints, namely, Charm Night Black, Alpine White, and Quantum Silver Gray. The overall design follows the existing versions, featuring a large front grille decorated with vertical waterfall-style chrome bars and the iconic Hongqi red logo, slender headlights, and Y-shaped through-type taillights with an eyelash effect. The PHEV logo in the lower right corner of the tailgate further signifies the identity of the vehicle.
The drag coefficient is 0.26Cd, which is 8% lower than the gasoline-powered variant. Additionally, the Hongqi H5 PHEV runs on new 18-inch rims.
Inside, the interior maintains the same layout and offers three colors: black, black + red, and black + blue. Behind the steering wheel is a 12.3-inch LCD instrument panel. The vertical 12.6-inch central control screen is embedded in the center console, which also comes with 40W wireless charging, a series of physical buttons, and a bulky gear lever.
Other configurations include 253-color ambient lighting, a Dynaudio audio system, mobile phone remote control, voice control, and seat ventilation/heating.
The plug-in hybrid system consists of a 1.5T engine with a maximum power of 110 kW (148 hp), peak torque of 225 Nm, and thermal efficiency of 42%; a front permanent magnet synchronous motor that outputs 168 kW (225 hp) and 340 Nm; mated to a DHT. The top speed is 180 km/h and the fastest 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time is 7.2 seconds. Furthermore, an 18.4 kWh or 23.9 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack is provided. The CLTC pure electric range is 130 km and 170 km, respectively; the corresponding comprehensive range is 1,560 km and 1,600 km.
Under fast charging, it takes 13.7 minutes officially to recharge from 30% to 80%.
In the first quarter of this year, more than 46,000 units of the Hongqi H5 were sold, according to the automaker, accounting for 42% of Hongqi’s first quarter sales, which were 109,100 vehicles, up 8.8% year-on-year.
