The AUDI E5 Sportback, developed through its partnership with SAIC Motor, has begun appearing at dealerships across China. Before its third-quarter launch, the electric wagon is now displayed in showrooms across major cities in China, including Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou.

The vehicle measures 4,870 mm in length, 1,990 mm in width, and 1,460 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. It could be classified as a mid-size vehicle and is slightly larger than segment rivals like the Nio ET5T and Zeekr 007 GT. According to Fermín Soneira, CEO of the Audi and SAIC Cooperation Project, the E5 Sportback is the first model built on the Advanced Digitised Platform, combining Audi’s engineering expertise with China’s digital innovations to meet the expectations of tech-savvy customers.

The appearance of production models confirms the vehicle’s specifications, with photos verifying its revolutionary 59-inch panoramic 4K display system, functional illuminated “AUDI” badging, and advanced digital side mirrors approved under China’s progressive EV regulations. The distinctive lighting signature, featuring 469 individual LEDs arranged in a circular pattern, has become an immediate visual hallmark of the model.

Dealership representatives claimed many visiting customers were interested in the vehicle’s technological integration. “The combination of next-generation display technology with premium craftsmanship is creating a wow factor,” a sales manager at AUDI’s Shanghai flagship location noted. The rep also reported that many visitors have commented that the cabin experience rivals vehicles in substantially higher price segments.

The Audi E5 Sportback features the in-house AUDI OS operating system, running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 automotive chipset. It has a 27-inch pillar-to-pillar 4K display supports customizable layouts, complemented by an AI-powered virtual assistant capable of touch and voice interaction. The vehicle also includes the LiDAR-supported AUDI 360 assisted driving system, integrating 29 perception hardware units for enhanced situational awareness. Progressive all-wheel steering and an adaptive air suspension system provide additional driving dynamics.

The E5 Sportback lineup will be available in RWD and AWD variants. The Quattro version boasts 787 horsepower output and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds. The 800V ultra-fast charging system can add 370 kilometres of range in ten minutes.

With launch and customer deliveries of the AUDI E5 scheduled to begin in late August/ early September, AUDI’s decision to place production models in showrooms well in advance demonstrates a savvy approach to building anticipation.

Early dealer feedback on the AUDI E5 Sportback aligns with local tech and quality expectations. Although pricing has not been announced, we at CNC expect it to cost around 40,000 USD.
