Beijing Hyundai has globally debuted the Elexio, its first SUV built on a dedicated pure electric platform, marking a significant step in the company’s “electrification transformation” strategy. Developed over five years, the Elexio is positioned as a “new quality force” vehicle, combining modern aesthetics, advanced technology, and high quality. The new SUV is expected to launch in the third quarter of this year.
The Elexio features a distinctive exterior design specific to electric vehicles. The daytime running lights are inspired by the concept of crystal and incorporate the number “8,” which is considered lucky in China. A through-type light strip and illuminated logo enhance recognition and technological feel. The front bumper has a robust, two-tone design reflecting a “Bold premium” style.
The side profile is described as powerful with layered lines and pronounced wheel arches giving it a muscular appearance. Design elements include a floating roof with a unique diagonal shape on the D-pillar, hidden door handles, and stylish multi-spoke 20-inch wheels. The rear design echoes the front with a through-type taillight design and a minimalist look enhanced by a hidden rear wiper. The Hyundai logo is integrated into the rear window.
While the interior has not been fully revealed, it is expected to feature a minimalist design with a focus on smart, modern interfaces and the elimination of physical buttons on the dashboard. The cabin will incorporate premium colors, modern seats, and a wraparound cockpit design to enhance luxury and technology. The Elexio will be equipped with a new concept driving information display powered by a Qualcomm 8295P chip, supporting features like online navigation, entertainment, smartphone connectivity, OTA updates, voice interaction, and remote control.
For intelligent driving assistance, the Elexio will offer an L2+ system with highway navigation capabilities. Beijing Hyundai plans to upgrade the automatic assisted driving functions and introduce memory parking in 2025, with urban assisted driving functionality expected in 2026. The vehicle will utilise Huawei’s Harmonyos Intelligent Mobility solution for these features.
The Elexio is built on Hyundai’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). It boasts a driving range of over 700 kilometres and supports fast charging, replenishing the battery from 30% to 80% in just 27 minutes.
