Mazda’s all-electric EZ-60 SUV has been spotted undergoing road tests in China as it prepares for an official launch in August. Meanwhile, pre-orders for the model have already surpassed 20,000 units within three weeks of its global debut at the Shanghai Auto Show. This could make it one of the “fastest-selling” joint-venture electric SUVs in the Chinese market.
The EZ-60 includes several technology features, such as a 4nm cockpit chip designed for energy-efficient performance and support for more than 1,700 innovative cockpit functions. It also introduces a 100-inch naked-eye 3D heads-up display (HUD) that uses eye-tracking and light-field projection to present driving information in the driver’s field of view. The HUD can function as a 3D entertainment display when the vehicle is parked.
The cabin features a 26.45-inch floating centre screen. It includes adaptive dimming for improved visibility and is 9.5 mm thick with 6.4mm bezels.
The EZ-60’s aerodynamic design includes nine air ducts and nineteen vents, reducing wind resistance by 60.8 counts. According to the company, this equates to an estimated range gain of 41 km. Additional exterior elements include wing-style upper air ducts, two-tone electronic side mirror housings, and a D-pillar design referencing performance vehicles. Mazda reports that these features generate 705n of downforce at highway speeds.
Following the initial response, Changan Mazda has extended its “golden deposit” program. Buyers can reserve the EZ-60 with a 10 yuan (1.4 USD) deposit that increases daily until delivery, with the full amount applied to the final purchase price.
Production is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2025. Pre-orders are available via Changan Mazda’s official channels, including its website, mobile app, and authorized dealerships. Industry observers are monitoring whether the EZ-60’s early momentum will continue as Mazda seeks to expand its presence in China’s growing electric vehicle market.
