China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has exposed BYD’s upcoming Seal 06. MIIT has revealed key specifications for the electric and plug-in hybrid variants ahead of their anticipated third-quarter 2025 launch. The midsize SUV will enter an increasingly competitive segment with a projected price range of 160,000 to 200,000 yuan (22,000−27,500 USD).

The plug-in hybrid Seal 06 DM-i combines a 74 kW 1.5-litre gasoline engine with a 160 kW electric motor, offering buyers two battery choices. The standard 18.316 kWh configuration delivers 93 km (58 miles) of WLTC-rated electric range, while the upgraded 26.593 kWh version extends this to 130 km (81 miles). Both variants utilise BYD’s proprietary blade battery technology, which is known for its safety and energy density.

The Seal 06 EV presents three distinct configurations. The base model features a 65.28 kWh battery paired with a 170 kW motor for 520 km (323 miles) of CLTC-rated range. A more powerful 180 kW motor option increases the range to 605 km (376 miles) when combined with the larger 78.72 kWh battery. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive version maintains the bigger battery but sees its range reduced to 550 km (342 miles) due to the additional 110 kW front motor.

Measuring 4810/1920/1675 mm with a 2,820 mm wheelbase, the Seal 06 adopts BYD’s contemporary Ocean Series design language. The exterior features a closed grille for EV models, distinctive split headlights, and a floating roof design. Inside, drivers will find a rotating 15.6-inch central touchscreen complemented by a digital instrument cluster and premium features, including 50W wireless charging and ventilated/heated front seats. The vehicle’s advanced driver assistance system incorporates 29 sensors for comprehensive safety coverage.

When it arrives in Chinese showrooms, the Seal 06 will compete against established rivals, including the Deepal S07, priced at 154,900 yuan (21,500 USD), and the Haval Xiaolong MAX, priced at 131,800 yuan (18,100 USD). BYD is expected to finalise complete specifications and official pricing closer to the model’s market debut later this year.
