On May 25, GAC officially activated its “Brazil Action Plan” in São Paulo, Brazil, as part of its “One GAC 2.0” globalization strategy, and launched five global models including the Aion V, Aion Y, Hyptec HT, Trumpchi GS4, and Aion ES. So far, GAC has built 33 dealerships in Brazil with a market coverage rate of more than 95%, the official claimed.
Last year, GAC launched its three-year “Panyu Action”, targeting to export 500,000 vehicles to 100 countries and regions around the world by 2027. In 2024, GAC sold more than 100,000 vehicles overseas for the first time, a year-on-year increase of 92.3%.
With Brazil being the world’s sixth largest automobile market, it’s an important hub of the Latin American economy and a bridgehead for the Latin American market, according to Wei Haigang, General Manager of GAC International. Electrified vehicles are the fastest growing segment in the local market. In the first four months of this year, sales of electrified vehicles increased by 37.4% year-on-year to 70,450 units, according to the Brazilian Association of Automotive Vehicle Manufacturers.
GAC plans to build Brazil into a core base for the Latin American market and expects sales in Brazil to reach 100,000 vehicles in the next five years. Earlier on May 24, GAC also announced its plan to start local factory construction by the end of 2026 and realize the localization of some models in Brazil in 2026.
In terms of its product portfolio for the Brazilian market, GAC launched four SUV models initially due to local consumer demands. At the same time, GAC said it launched the Aion ES model for ridesharing services to support the Brazilian government’s plan to double the size of the country’s electric vehicle fleet by the end of 2025.
Furthermore, GAC signed cooperation agreements with Brazilian universities to promote the research and development of Flexible Fuel Vehicles, including the State University of Campinas, the Federal University of Santa Catarina, and the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM).
