Mazda has confirmed the Mazda EZ-6 Sports Edition launch at the upcoming 2025 Chongqing Auto Show on June 7. This new variant builds upon the standard EZ-6 model that initially went on sale in October 2024, introducing several sport-focused upgrades while maintaining the existing powertrain options.

The Sports Edition receives distinctive styling enhancements that emphasise its performance character. Exterior changes include blacked-out elements such as side skirts, mirror caps, and 19-inch alloy wheels, complemented by eye-catching red brake callipers. Inside, the cabin features premium black suede upholstery with red contrast stitching and carbon fibre-pattern trim accents, creating a more aggressive aesthetic while preserving Mazda’s driver-centric interior layout.

Under the hood, the Sports Edition offers the same electrified powertrains as the standard model. Buyers can choose between an extended-range configuration pairing a 1.5-litre range extender with a 160kW rear electric motor, delivering a combined CLTC-rated range of 1,301 kilometres, or a pure electric variant with 190kW output capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in 6.9 seconds.

Pricing details will be officially revealed at the launch event. Still, industry insiders anticipate the Sports Edition will command a modest premium over the standard model’s current pricing, starting at 139,800 yuan (19405 USD) before subsidies. This strategic positioning aims to strengthen the EZ-6’s competitiveness against domestic rivals like the BYD Seal, leveraging its combination of sporty styling and extended-range practicality.

The introduction of the Sports Edition follows the standard EZ-6’s relatively modest sales performance since its initial launch, with Mazda seeking to reinvigorate interest through more aggressive styling and potential suspension refinements. The Chongqing Auto Show, running from June 7 to 13, will also feature an updated CX-5 model showcasing similar blackout trim elements. Media previews of the EZ-6 Sports Edition’s driving dynamics are scheduled during the event’s opening days.

Further details regarding possible suspension adjustments or exclusive colour options remain unconfirmed ahead of the official launch. We will keep an eye on the new model.
