JAC Motors unveiled the Hunter PHEV Australian Edition at the 2025 Greater Bay Auto Show in China, marking the global debut of its right-hand-drive plug-in hybrid pickup truck. Based on the existing Hunter platform, this variant represents JAC’s push into international markets with an eye on Australia. The model will launch in Australia later this year under the T9 PHEV nameplate.

The Hunter PHEV retains the bold styling of its combustion sibling, including split-type headlights and a black grille. Blue-accented JAC badging distinguishes the PHEV model while removing red faux tow hooks, which gives the front fascia a cleaner look. The Australian Edition includes optional aerodynamic alloy wheels (265/60 R18) and a redesigned cargo system featuring an overhead rack and integrated roll bar for improved utility.

The Hunter PHEV offers solutions for diverse user needs in standard and long-wheelbase formats. The standard model measures 5,330mm long with a 3,110mm wheelbase and offers a 715kg payload. The long-wheelbase version adds 290mm in length, trading off some payload capacity (665kg) for increased cargo volume—ideal for commercial users or outdoor lifestyles.

The cabin has been reconfigured with a right-hand-drive layout tailored for Australia. A new four-spoke steering wheel, rotary gear selector, and diamond-quilted leather seats enhance the premium feel. The dashboard features a 7-inch instrument cluster and 10.4-inch touchscreen, supported by features such as an electronic parking brake with auto-hold and multiple drive modes.

Under the hood, the Hunter PHEV pairs a 160kW 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with two electric motors—130kW at the front and 150kW at the rear—delivering all-wheel drive and efficient performance. A lithium iron phosphate battery from Guoxuan High-Tech offers over 100 km of electric-only range, enough to cover most daily driving without fuel.

With competition heating up in the electrified pickup segment, JAC’s entry stands out in a space dominated mainly by rivals like GWM in China. JAC positions the Hunter PHEV Australian Edition as a capable and efficient alternative by focusing on international markets where plug-in hybrids are gaining interest.
