According to a report, Nissan is considering introducing the N7 electric sedan to the Japanese market. Developed under the Dongfeng Nissan joint venture, the N7 is the first all-electric sedan built on Dongfeng Nissan’s new energy platform. While the company has yet to confirm a launch timeline or further details, the potential move signals Nissan’s intent to expand its domestic EV offerings with a model designed initially for the Chinese market.

The Dongfeng Nissan N7 officially went on sale in China on April 27, with five variants priced between 119,900 and 149,900 yuan (approx. 14,000 – 17,500 USD). The N7’s exterior design stands out among compact electric sedans, balancing aesthetics with aerodynamic efficiency. It retains the elegance of a traditional three-box sedan while accommodating battery packaging constraints. The result is a mid-size (B-segment) sedan offering cabin space comparable to a larger (C-segment) vehicle.

Inside, the N7 features a wraparound “Cloud Comfort” cockpit in either light grey or dual-tone forest green/snow white interior. Premium materials such as suede-like microfiber, Alcantara-style fabric, and cloud-patterned soft padding enhance the upscale ambience. The centre console includes a 15.6-inch 2.5K touchscreen and an independent digital instrument cluster.

Powertrain options include single-motor variants rated at 160 and 200 kW, each paired with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. CLTC-rated driving ranges vary by configuration, offering 510 km, 525 km, 540 km, 625 km, or up to 635 km. The N7 also supports a 6.6 kW external power output function and fast charging capabilities—charging from 30% to 80% takes 14 minutes under optimal conditions.

Exterior styling emphasises modernity and minimalism. The front end features a closed-off grille, split headlights, and a full-width LED light bar. The car integrates up to 710 LED elements and 882 OLED units, with the front and rear lighting systems supporting customizable “Magic Canvas” animations for added personalisation. Two 19-inch wheel designs are offered: one prioritises aerodynamic efficiency with a multi-spoke layout, while the other features a sportier five-spoke petal-style design.

In terms of size, the N7 measures 4,930 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width, and 1,487 mm in height, with a 2,915 mm wheelbase—dimensions that support both family and business use. On the tech front, the vehicle runs on Nissan’s proprietary NISSAN OS operating system and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chipset. It also features DeepSeek large-model AI integration, Apple CarPlay support, and a built-in AI companion. The car’s multisensory “Nature Harmony” interface provides interactive experiences via sound, visuals, and touch.

The N7 also includes an advanced driver assistance suite developed in collaboration with Momenta, covering various everyday driving scenarios.

Currently, in China, more than 60% of buyers are opting for the top-spec Max trim, which has a longer delivery lead time due to demand.

With its blend of practical performance, refined design, and competitive technology, the Nissan N7 is a strong contender in the mid-size electric sedan segment. Launching in Japan could broaden Nissan’s appeal to customers seeking a tech-forward EV with upscale features at an accessible price point.
