BYD officially launched its brand in Gabon, a Central African country on the continent’s west coast. This marks a significant step in BYD’s ongoing expansion across Africa. In collaboration with local distributor LOXEA, a subsidiary of the CFAO Group, BYD hosted a brand launch event at the Oloumi Industrial Zone in Libreville, Gabon’s capital. The event attracted nearly 100 attendees, including media members, government officials, automotive enthusiasts, and prospective car buyers. Gabon’s Minister of Trade, Gninga Chaning Zenaba, was present to witness the milestone moment.

Gabon is widely recognised as a regional environmental leader, with over 85% of its land area covered by forest. The country is actively pursuing a “Green Economic Transformation Plan,” making it a strategic fit for BYD’s sustainability-focused expansion. Marc Hirschfeld, CEO of CFAO Mobility, emphasised this alignment, stating, “Gabon’s environmental policies are highly consistent with BYD’s mission to ‘cool the Earth by 1°C.’ With our extensive sales network across Africa, we aim to demonstrate our commitment to the continent by using Gabon as a model for sustainable mobility solutions throughout West Africa.”

Yao Shu, Director of BYD’s African automotive sales division, noted that entering the Gabonese market represents BYD’s deepening footprint in the region. “Gabon shares BYD’s vision of electrification and green transformation. Local car owners will benefit from our industry-leading new energy technologies, enjoying a high-quality driving experience and low-carbon travel options,” he said.

BYD introduced two models to the Gabonese market at the event: the BYD Atto 3 (Yuan Plus in China) and the Dolphin. The Atto 3, BYD’s first global export model, has gained significant traction in overseas markets due to its aerodynamic styling, sleek design, and impressive performance, including acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds.

BYD’s entry into Gabon marks its presence in 17 African countries and regions. BYD claims to continue working closely with local partners to broaden its market reach and provide more environmentally friendly mobility solutions across Africa.
