BYD Thailand has announced plans to commence deliveries of the locally assembled BYD Seal 05 DM-i (known as Chaser 05 or Destroyer 05 in China) in early August, marking its entry into the Thai automotive market. This move signifies a step for BYD as it introduces Thailand’s first B-segment plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV).

The Seal 05 DM-i will be produced at BYD’s Rayong factory, a facility that recently celebrated a major milestone: the delivery of its 90,000th new energy vehicle (NEV).

The BYD Rayong factory represents a substantial investment of approximately 35 billion Thai Baht (1 billion USD), covering an area of 948,000 square meters. With an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles, the plant encompasses the four main processes of vehicle manufacturing and a parts factory. Currently, three BYD models are being localised for production.

The “90,000th NEV Delivery and One-Year Anniversary of Thailand Factory Operation Ceremony” was held on July 8. During the ceremony, BYD officially handed over its 90,000th NEV, a Denza D9, to Ms. Nualphan Lamsam, President of the Football Association of Thailand.

BYD chairman and president Wang Chuanfu personally delivered a Denza D9 to Ms. Nualphan Lamsam, president of the Football Association of Thailand.

The BYD Seal 05 DM-i, a rebadged version of the Destroyer 05, features the latest design language of BYD’s Ocean series. It measures 4780 mm in length, 1837 mm in width, and 1515 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2718 mm.

A key highlight of the Seal 05 DM-i is its BYD DM-i 5.0 PHEV system. This system combines a 1.5L engine with a maximum power of 99 hp (74 kW) and a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a maximum power of 161 hp (120 kW). It will be offered with 7.68 kWh and 15.898 kWh LFP battery packs, providing declared pure electric ranges of 43 km and 90 km, respectively. The vehicle boasts an impressive fuel consumption as low as 2.95L/100km, with a comprehensive range of 2000 km on a full tank and charge.
