This is the new Tank 500 off-road SUV, featuring a roof lidar to support Great Wall Motor’s (GWM) Coffee Pilot Ultra advanced driving assistance system. The official debut will be on July 25, and is expected to start pre-sales in August and be launched in the third quarter in China.


Currently, the Tank 500 on the market is available in 5- and 7-seater layouts as well as ICE and PHEV variants, with a starting price of 335,000 yuan (46,700 USD).

The new Tank 500 continues the design language of the current model. The biggest difference is the newly added Hesai ATX roof lidar, which is 60% smaller and 50% lighter than the Hesai AT128 lidar on the Wey Blue Mountain (Lanshan), according to Chinese social media Autohome. At the same time, the front trapezoidal grille is decorated with updated chrome-plated bars, the “GWM” logo is added to the rear, and a green exterior paint will be available for consumers to choose from.
The length, width, and height of the new Tank 500 remain unchanged: 5078/1934/1905 mm, respectively, and the wheelbase is 2850 mm, positioned as a medium-to-large SUV.
Furthermore, power is expected to remain consistent with the current model, according to the previously declared information. The Hi4-T and Hi4-Z plug-in hybrid systems composed of a 2.0T engine with a maximum power of 185 kW (248 hp).
Referring to the current model, the Tank 500 Hi4-T is equipped with an electric motor with a maximum power of 120 kW (161 hp) and a 36.7/37.1 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, providing a WLTC pure electric range of 110 km. The Tank 500 Hi4-Z is equipped with dual electric motors that output a combined power of 455 kW (610 hp) and a 59.05 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, providing a WLTC pure electric range of 201 km.

Inside, the cockpit adopts a T-shape layout, featuring a large floating center control screen and a full LCD instrument panel. Most notably, an in-vehicle refrigerator and a foldable ceiling entertainment screen for the rear passengers are also added.
