Great Wall Motor’s (GWM) will open its new Tank 500 Hi4-T and Hi4-Z plug-in hybrid off-road SUVs for pre-sale on August 11 in China. The major upgrade is the addition of a Hesai ATX lidar on the roof to support GWM’s third-generation Coffee Pilot Ultra advanced driving assistance system to realize high-speed and urban NOAs.

Outside, the new Tank 500 retains the design of the current model with minor updates and will be available in a new Dunhuang Green, along with the existing Kunlun Gold, Pamir Silver, and Mount Everest White exterior paints.

In the front, the grille has been redesigned, featuring vertical stacked chrome bars embedded with a glass Tank brand logo. The rear logo above the license plate has also been replaced with “GWM TANK,” and a Chinese-printed GWM logo has been added to the right of the external spare tire.

The body dimensions measure 5078/1934/1905 mm (l/w/h), and the wheelbase measures 2850 mm, which are consistent with the current model. Furthermore, the new Tank 500 boasts a 29° approach angle, a 24° departure angle, and a 210 mm minimum ground clearance.

Two powertrain options will be available for consumers to choose from, with the same specification as the current model. The Hi4-T version is equipped with a 185 kW (248 hp) 2.0T engine and a 120 kW (161 hp) electric motor, mated to a 9HAT, outputting a total power of 300 kW ( hp). The 36.7 kWh and 37.1 kWh ternary lithium battery packs provide a WLTC pure electric range of 110 km.

The Hi4-Z version comes with the same 2.0T engine, but features dual 455 kW (610 hp) electric motors and is mated to 3-speed DHT. The 59.05 kWh ternary lithium battery pack provides a WLTC pure electric range of 201 km.

The cockpit continues to use a three-spoke steering wheel, but now comes with a paddle shifter. The control buttons under the central control screen have been redesigned and the floating central control screen comes with a built-in Coffee OS 3 operating system. Passengers can store foods and drinks inside the new refrigerator on the center console that has a temperature range of -6°C to 50°C. Two 50W wireless charging pads are also available.

Both the front and rear seats are ventilated, heated, and massage-compatible, while the rear seats offer 25° to 35° reclining angle adjustment. Rear passengers can also watch from a new ceiling 17.3-inch 3K touchscreen display that supports six control modes including voice, gesture, touch, and remote control.
