The MG brand announced that pre-sale orders for the new MG4 have exceeded 20,000 units. The official launch, initially scheduled for September, has been moved up to August 29.

On August 15, MG opened a limited “Pioneer Program” offering 500 MG4 units for early reservation, which sold out in 4 minutes and 36 seconds. Reservations were made through the “MG Live” app with a small deposit. The general MG4 pre-sale began on August 5, with pricing ranging from 73,800 yuan (approx. 10,300 USD) to 105,800 yuan (approx. 14,700 USD).

The MG4 retains a hatchback body shape and adopts a revised design language under the direction of Shao Jingfeng, Chief Designer at SAIC Motor and General Manager of the UK Tech Centre. The front end features an illuminated logo, continuing the styling cues from the MG Cyberster. The new MG4 dimensions are 4,395 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width, and 1,551 mm in height, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase. The rear features arrow-shaped taillights inspired by the Union Jack. Six body colour options will be available.

The MG4 measures 4,395 × 1,842 × 1,551 mm, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase.

The cabin features a wraparound layout. The infotainment system, jointly developed by SAIC and Oppo, enables full smartphone integration, allowing control of phone content through the vehicle’s central display. The MG4 uses SAIC’s CTB (Cell-to-Body) battery integration, lowering the cabin floor to increase interior space.

Power comes from a single front-mounted 120 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor with a lithium iron phosphate battery pack. MG4 Anxin Edition will use semi-solid-state batteries, with details to be announced at the launch and deliveries planned before year-end. Other variants of the vehicle support charging from 30% to 80% in about 20 minutes under maximum charging conditions. The CLTC-rated range is up to 530 km, with energy consumption of 10.4 kWh per 100 km.

Separately, Vivo announced that its OriginOS “digital car key” function is now compatible with MG vehicles, beginning with the new MG4. The system allows compatible smartphones to unlock and start the vehicle by tapping the phone to the car. Supported devices include models from Vivo’s X, S, and iQOO series. Vivo’s system is already available for brands including Buick, BYD, BMW, Changan, Zeekr, Li Auto, MINI, Smart, Tesla, Nio, Xpeng, and IM Motors.
