The BYD Han L continues the evolution of the Han series, presenting a sedan that combines the brand’s characteristic styling with advanced electrification and multiple powertrain configurations. The fully electric version is available in both rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) layouts, while the plug-in hybrid offers front-wheel-drive (FWD) and AWD variants.

At the top of the lineup, the dual-motor AWD model produces 810 kW (1,086 hp), operating on BYD’s 1000V Super e-Platform and paired with an 83.2 kWh LFP battery. Charging is supported by both BYD’s MW stations for ultra-fast replenishment and conventional fast chargers, allowing flexibility for long-distance use.

Exterior

The Han L adopts a low-profile, aerodynamic silhouette consistent with the Han family design language. Its lines are clean and restrained, contributing to a balanced sedan profile.

At the front, sharp headlights frame a chrome-plated strip engraved with the 汉 (Han) character, reinforcing the car’s identity. From the side, flush door handles, a sloping roofline, and a low beltline give the body an elongated appearance. Dual-tone 19-inch wheels, housing perforated brake discs with red callipers, introduce subtle performance-oriented cues without overwhelming the overall elegance.

Aerodynamic refinements distinguish the Han L from its predecessor, including water-free door seals and flush window edges. Proportions remain generous, with dimensions of 5,050 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,505 mm in height, supported by a 2,970 mm wheelbase. The result is a stable, visually balanced stance.

Interior

Inside, the Han L employs a dual-colour layout to create visual contrast and clarity. The D-shaped steering wheel prominently features the 汉 character, while the dashboard’s centre is dominated by a 15.6-inch floating touchscreen, which integrates navigation, media, and vehicle controls. The display is positioned for ease of use by both driver and front passenger.

Materials include sustainable elements such as bamboo, alongside other high-quality finishes, balancing modern aesthetics with functionality. Practical storage solutions are integrated throughout the cabin.

For rear passengers, the cabin provides a glass roof with an operable front section, manual sunshades, and seats equipped with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. The layout focuses on usability and comfort, while maintaining a clear, uncluttered design.

Driving Experience

The dual-motor AWD Han L delivers 0–100 km/h acceleration in 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 305 km/h. Its powertrain consists of a 580 kW rear motor capable of sustaining 30,511 rpm, and a 230 kW front motor, combining for a peak output of 810 kW. Even when sustaining high rpm, the rear motor continues to deliver 524 kW.

On the road, acceleration is smooth and progressive, with initial throttle response carefully managed for precise modulation even under maximum output. The AWD system distributes torque effectively between front and rear axles, reducing understeer or oversteer and providing stable handling during rapid overtaking or extended high-speed driving. Regenerative braking integrates seamlessly with the drivetrain, contributing to energy recovery while maintaining a consistent driving rhythm.

Chassis dynamics are supported by a mechanical suspension combined with a CDC (Continuous Damping Control) variable-damping system: this setup balances firm, responsive handling with stability over uneven road surfaces. Cornering behaviour remains predictable, while the steering offers measured feedback and sufficient precision without requiring constant corrections.

Han L’s driving experience is defined by high acceleration capability, sustained power delivery, and composed handling. Its technical systems work cohesively to provide both performance and day-to-day usability.

Verdict

The BYD Han L integrates advanced EV systems within a refined sedan format. The exterior retains a streamlined, aerodynamic profile with modest performance cues, while the interior offers practical design, sustainable materials, and passenger-oriented features.

The AWD dual-motor variant achieves 0–100 km/h in 2.7 seconds, 100–200 km/h in 4.74 seconds, and a 305 km/h top speed, supported by the 1000V Super e-Platform and 83.2 kWh LFP battery. Charging flexibility extends from MW ultra-fast replenishment to conventional fast charging.

The Han L illustrates the current technical direction of BYD’s Han series, combining performance-focused powertrain engineering with stable handling and energy management, packaged in a design that supports both everyday use and high-speed driving.
