Chery launches Tiggo 9 C-DM plug-in hybrid with updated Tiggo 9 family from 17,900 USD
Chery officially launched the updated Tiggo 9 family in China, introducing the 2025 Tiggo 9, the Tiggo 9X, and the new Tiggo 9 C-DM plug-in hybrid. The expanded lineup offers customers more powertrain choices and configurations, while promotional “early bird” prices are available during the National Day holiday in October in China.

Tiggo 9
The Tiggo 9 has received a mid-cycle update focused on configuration adjustments rather than significant design changes. The model is equipped with its 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, rated at 192 kW and 400 Nm, paired with either a seven-speed dual-clutch or an eight-speed automatic transmission, depending on the trim level. It measures at 4820/1930/1712 mm, and the wheelbase is 2820 mm.
Five variants are available, with the new “Yaoxiang” edition positioned in the middle of the range. This replaces the outgoing “Zunxiang” edition and features include CDC adaptive suspension, a smart Bluetooth key, and a 12-speaker audio system, along with an exclusive twilight purple interior option. Exterior and interior designs remain consistent with the previous version, including a 24.6-inch dual-screen display, AR-HUD head-up display, and up to seven-seat layouts.



Tiggo 9 C-DM (plug-in hybrid)
The Tiggo 9 C-DM joins the family as a plug-in hybrid variant. While it shares the overall design with the Tiggo 9, it features a larger-capacity battery pack compared to the previous hybrid version. It uses Chery’s Kunpeng Super Performance Electric Hybrid C-DM system, which combines a 1.5T hybrid engine with a front-mounted electric motor, paired with a 3-speed DHT. The ternary lithium battery has a capacity of 19.43 kWh. The engine delivers 115 kW (154 hp) and 220 Nm of torque, while the motor produces 165 kW (221 hp) and 390 Nm.
The vehicle accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 8.8 seconds, offers a CLTC-rated pure electric range of 106 km, and achieves an official WLTC combined range of over 1,400 km with a full tank and charge. Charging from 30% to 80% takes 25 minutes using fast charging, while a full recharge with slow charging requires 3.5 hours. Three trims are available, with prices starting from 165,900 yuan (23,300 USD).
Tiggo 9X
The Tiggo 9X is positioned as a derivative of the Tiggo 9 but features a shorter wheelbase by 50 mm and notable design changes. The front bumper design has been revised, featuring independent air intakes that replace the full-width lower grille. Additionally, the taillights and rear bumper details have been updated.



Inside, the Tiggo 9X adopts a more minimalist cabin with a dual floating-screen layout, hidden air vents, and a redesigned centre console. It adds features such as a headrest audio system, a new “Boyar Sound” audio package with up to 14 speakers, and an AI-based intelligent voice assistant. Higher trims are equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8255 cockpit chip and the Falcon 500 driver assistance system, offering functions such as highway NOA, memory driving, and advanced parking assistance.
The Tiggo 9X is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 187 kW and 390 Nm, which is slightly lower than the Tiggo 9’s output, matched with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available on higher trims.
The Tiggo 9 family continues to target the midsize SUV segment, with both fuel-powered and plug-in hybrid options. Competitors include the Hongqi HS5 (183,800 – 249,800 yuan / 25,800 – 35,000 USD), Exeed Yaoguang (149,800 – 206,800 yuan / 21,000 – 28,900 USD), and larger models such as the GAC Trumpchi GS8 and Changan CS95. In August 2025, Tiggo 9 sales reached 2,920 units, ranking 36th among midsize SUVs in China.
