Smart #5 EHD with Geely’s NordThor Hybrid 2.0 starts pre-sale from 26,600 USD
Smart opened its Smart #5 EHD SUV for pre-sale, with a starting price of 189,900 yuan (26,600 USD). As the brand’s first plug-in hybrid model, the new car is powered by Geely’s NordThor Hybrid 2.0 system, boasting a CLTC pure electric range of 252 km and a comprehensive range of 1,615 km.

For reference, the Smart #5 currently has six trims on sale with a BEV powertrain, and the price range is 239,900 to 379,900 yuan (33,700 to 53,200 USD).

As a new powertrain variant, the Smart #5 EHD’s overall Boxy design continues that of the BEV variant. The closed front grille is matched with a stacked headlight design consisting of 328 LED units. At the same time, new design elements are incorporated, such as the redesigned front bumper injected with chrome trims.
In the rear, there is a through-type taillight group with the shape of the cluster on both sides echoes the headlights consisting of 196 LED units. The rear bumper has also been redesigned, which is decorated with gray trim, and the exhaust system adopts a hidden layout.

The Smart #5 EHD measures 4705/1920/1705 mm (l/w/h), with a wheelbase of 2900 mm, which is 5 mm taller than the BEV variant.

For intelligent driving, the Smart #5 EHD has a roof-mounted lidar, along with 12 cameras, five millimeter-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic radars, to support the onboard smart Pilot Assist advanced driving assistance system. The system sits on dual Nvidia Drive OrinX intelligent driving chips, supporting high-speed and urban navigation on autopilot without relying on a high-definition map, and memory parking assist.

The powertrain comes from Geely’s NordThor Hybrid 2.0 technology consisting of a 1.5T engine and an electric motor, mated to a 3-speed DHT. The engine outputs a maximum power of 120 kW (161 hp), and the motor outputs a 200 kW (268 hp).
The 41.46 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery supplied by CATL boasts a CLTC pure electric range of 252 km. The comprehensive range is 1,615 km. Under fast charging, it takes 20 minutes to recharge the battery from 10% to 80%.

Coming into the cabin, the layout largely remains the same, and is available in Obsidian Black and Light Honey Brown themes. The cockpit is equipped with a dual-color steering wheel, a 10.3-inch full LCD instrument panel, and dual 13-inch AMOLED 2.5K screens (one as the central control screen and the other as the co-pilot entertainment screen), which can be linked to a 25.6-inch AR-HUD display.
Chrome trim elements have also been added for decoration to distinguish from the BEV variant.

The official interior space utilization rate is as high as 85%, and the trunk volume can be expanded to 1,525 L after folding down the rear seats.
Other configurations include zero gravity co-pilot seat, a 20-speaker Sennheiser audio system, and 256-color ambient lighting.
