Dongfeng’s M-Hero expands lineup with M817 Max+, an off-road PHEV SUV with 50 kWh CATL battery

The Dongfeng M-Hero family has welcomed a new member as the M817 Max+ officially launched with a price tag of 369,900 yuan (51,200 USD). As a high-end rugged off-road vehicle under the M-Hero brand, the M817 Max+ version features upgrades in configuration and is equipped with a larger capacity battery pack.

The vehicle dimensions measure 5,100mm in length, 1,998mm in width, and 1,899mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,005mm.

The M817 Max+ boasts off-road capabilities with approach and departure angles of 31°, a longitudinal passing angle of 20°, and a minimum ground clearance of 237mm. Its maximum wading depth reaches 820mm.

The side.

For the interior, the M817 Max+ offers three colour options: Pine Ink, Mountain Grey, and Danxia Brown. The vehicle is equipped with the HarmonySpace 5 smart cockpit system.

The rear.

On the power front, the M817 Max+ is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system combining a 1.5T engine with electric motors, delivering a combined power output of 505 kW (677 hp) and a combined torque of 848N·m. The new vehicle features a 50.4kWh CATL Freevoy battery, achieving a CLTC pure electric range of 215km and a combined range of 1,365km.

Inside.

Additionally, the vehicle employs a two-speed longitudinal 11-mode PHEV architecture and a distributed decoupled four-wheel drive system, supporting multiple driving modes including fuel, pure electric, range-extended, and plug-in hybrid, as well as nine driving modes that allow drivers to select the most suitable option for different road conditions.

In the desert.

For intelligent driving assistance, the M817 Max+ comes standard with Huawei’s Qiankun intelligent driving system ADS 4, supporting features such as Navigation Cruise Assist (NCA) and full-scenario parking assistance. The vehicle is equipped with 27 sensors in total, including 11 HD cameras, three 4D millimetre-wave radars, one 192-line LiDAR, and 12 ultrasonic radars.
