Dongfeng Nissan has entered production of its NR15 engine, a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated unit explicitly developed for plug-in hybrid applications. The engine will power the Nissan N6, the company’s first plug-in hybrid sedan in China, which is scheduled to launch in the fourth quarter of 2025, reported Auto-home.

According to information released through China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the N6 combines the NR15 engine, rated at 75 kW (101 hp), with an electric motor producing 155 kW (208 hp). The hybrid system is paired with a 21.1 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack supplied by Rept Battero Energy Co., Ltd., offering WLTC-rated pure-electric ranges of 125 km and 130 km, depending on the configuration.

Built on Dongfeng Nissan’s Tianyan architecture, the N6 measures 4,831 mm in length, 1,885 mm in width, and approximately 1,49x mm in height, with a 2,815 mm wheelbase. This layout allows space for both battery and combustion components while maintaining interior proportions typical of mid-size sedans.

In design, the N6 follows Nissan’s latest styling approach. The front features a closed-off grille and a “star-ring” continuous LED light strip running across the width of the car, accompanied by boomerang-shaped headlights and an illuminated Nissan logo. The side profile adopts hidden door handles, while the rear integrates a ducktail-shaped trunk lid and a through-type taillight with illuminated “NISSAN” lettering. The rear bumper incorporates a two-tone trim and a hidden exhaust layout.

The NR15 engine has been tuned to emphasise efficiency and durability, aligning with Nissan’s long-standing development focus. When paired with the electric drive motor, the hybrid system is designed to operate the engine within its optimal efficiency range under most conditions.

The N6 enters the market following the launch of the Nissan N7 earlier this year, the brand’s first battery-electric sedan in China, which starts at 119,900 yuan (16,840 USD). Based on its positioning and powertrain, the N6 is expected to be priced lower than the N7 and could later form part of Dongfeng Nissan’s export lineup through its joint venture with NCIC.

Official details regarding the N6’s charging system and trim configurations will be released closer to launch.
