Hongqi confirmed that the official name of its upcoming luxury off-road vehicle will be revealed at the 2025 Guangzhou Auto Show in November. The announcement follows a nationwide naming campaign that attracted over 310,000 participants and generated 67,245 name proposals, from which ten finalists were selected for public voting between October 8 and October 31. The final result will be unveiled when the show opens later this year, according to Autohome.

The new model was first displayed at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show on April 23, marking Hongqi’s entry into the hardcore SUV segment. The concept’s boxy silhouette, round headlights, and large black grille drew comparisons to traditional off-road icons. Designers said the exterior incorporates elements inspired by sunmao, the traditional mortise-and-tenon joints found in Chinese wooden architecture, intended to reflect structural precision and cultural reference.

According to the official images, the model features pronounced wheel arches, large off-road tyres, a roof rack, and what appears to be a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, suggesting potential for advanced driver-assistance functions. The body structure is non-load-bearing, emphasising rigidity for off-road use, while three locking differentials are expected to enhance traction over uneven terrain.

The powertrain employs Hongqi’s in-house developed vector-control four-motor electric system, capable of producing up to 1,850 N·m of torque. The company claims a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of around four seconds. This setup enables precise power distribution between wheels, making it especially useful in off-road conditions that require stability and torque management.

When launched next year, the vehicle will become Hongqi’s first purpose-built off-roader, expanding its lineup, which has previously focused on sedans and SUVs. The addition reflects a growing trend among Chinese automakers to explore high-end off-road models, supported by advances in domestic electric drivetrain technology.

Hongqi has stated that the individual whose proposed name is ultimately adopted will receive the “001” numbered launch edition of the vehicle. Details such as interior layout, digital systems, and price range have not been disclosed at this time. As the Guangzhou Auto Show approaches, more technical and market information about the model is expected to be released.
