Haval Raptor PHEV adds unexpected “aquatic mode” – Great Wall offers free fix
Great Wall Motor’s Haval brand has issued an official statement following reports of water accumulation beneath the trunk floor in specific units of the Haval Raptor plug-in hybrid (Raptor Hi4). The company traced the issue to poor drainage around the charging-port cover, which in some vehicles allowed water to seep inward and collect on the trunk floor.
According to the statement published on October 14, Haval will begin a special inspection campaign on October 15 through its authorised service network. Vehicles found to have, or at risk of developing, the issue will be repaired free of charge. Any components damaged as a result will receive a lifetime warranty. Haval said it has opened a “green channel” at dealerships to fast-track affected owners.
The Raptor, known domestically as the Menglong, is a plug-in hybrid SUV positioned as a compact off-roader in Haval’s lineup. The 2026 model, launched two months earlier, introduced updated front and rear designs, new 19-inch wheels, and a revised cabin with Coffee OS 3 infotainment. Prices start at 173,800 yuan (24,400 USD). Power comes from a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine paired with a dual-motor Hi4 system, producing 330 kW and 750 N·m of torque, and capable of reaching 0–100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.
Haval did not disclose how many vehicles might be affected by the water-leak problem. The company said it will strengthen quality-control measures and improve drainage design in future production runs.
As plug-in hybrids grow more complex, issues such as water ingress highlight the engineering challenges of balancing electrification components with traditional SUV durability. While isolated, the incident places renewed attention on the Great Wall’s production consistency and sealing standards across its hybrid SUV range.
Haval stated it “will take full responsibility” for all potentially affected Raptor PHEV units and invited customer feedback through its hotline and mobile app. The company added that it remains committed to enhancing product reliability and after-sales service for its electrified models.
