Chery’s Jetour Zonghing G700 becomes first SUV to cross the 1.5 km wide Yangtze River
Chery‘s Jetour Zongheng G700 has become the first SUV in history to successfully cross the Yangtze River. The crossing took place on October 16, launching from Heisha Zhou Ferry Terminal in Wuhu, Anhui Province. Wuhu is the city where Chery is headquartered.
The amphibious journey, spanning 1,480 meters across China’s mightiest river, was completed in 22 minutes. The SUV traversed approximately 1.2km of water surface, battling currents ranging from 5 to 10km/h. The vehicle maintained a stable floating position throughout the crossing, cruising at approximately 7km/h before successfully reaching Nanlong Ferry Terminal.
The Zongheng G700’s successful river crossing was made possible by its technological features, including a seamless, hole-free painted body, an active air circulation system, and an 800V high-voltage silicon carbide high-speed propulsion system. The vehicle’s 6-axis gyroscope continuously adjusted body balance, ensuring precise control during the water traverse.
Set to launch on October 19, the Zongheng G700 is positioned as a large luxury hybrid off-road SUV. The vehicle will be available in four configurations, with pre-sale prices ranging from 349,900 to 429,900 yuan (49,000 to 60200 USD).
The SUV boasts a 2.0TD hybrid-specific engine delivering 155 kW of power and 340N·m of torque, with a thermal efficiency of 45.5%. Built on an 800V architecture, it features a 2-speed DHT hybrid transmission, a 4C dual-layer battery system, and a 2-speed P4 electric motor. The vehicle achieves a total power output of 560 kW (751 hp) and 795N·m of torque, with a full-tank range of 1,400km.

About the Yangtze River
The Yangtze River (Chinese: Chang Jiang) is the longest in both China and Asia, and the third-longest in the world, stretching 6,300 km (3,915 miles). It rises in the Tanggula Mountains of the Tibetan Plateau and flows eastward across south-central and east-central China before emptying into the East China Sea near Shanghai.
Wuhu sits on the south (right) bank of the Yangtze River in the lower-middle reach, roughly 350 km upstream from the river mouth at Shanghai.
