2026 BYD Song L DM-i extends EV range to 200 km from 112 km, launching late October
BYD has confirmed that the 2026 Song L DM-i will officially launch in China at the end of October, according to D-Auto. The updated plug-in hybrid SUV introduces minor design and feature changes while maintaining its overall dimensions and powertrain setup.
The new model adopts semi-recessed exterior door handles and a column-mounted gear selector. It also comes standard with BYD’s YunNian-C adaptive damping body control system and TBC (Tire Blowout Control) high-speed stability function across all trims. The model’s pure-electric range under CLTC testing has been extended to a maximum of 200 kilometres. The 200 km variant is expected to start from around 160,000 yuan (22,000 USD).
The 2026 Song L DM-i retains most of the current model’s exterior design, including the large hexagonal front grille and full-width taillight bar. The main exterior change is the adoption of semi-hidden door handles. For reference, the current model measures 4,780 mm in length, 1,898 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height, with a 2,782 mm wheelbase.
Inside, the updated model replaces the traditional gear lever with a steering-column-mounted shifter, leading to a redesigned lower dashboard layout. Physical function buttons have been rearranged into a single-row layout, while wireless phone charging and twin cupholders remain. A large digital instrument cluster and a floating central touchscreen continue to dominate the dashboard design.
Higher-spec trims will feature additions such as a temperature-controlled refrigerator and front seat massage.
The Song L DM-i continues to use BYD’s plug-in hybrid system, combining a 1.5-litre gasoline engine and an electric drive motor. The engine produces 74 kW, while the electric motor delivers up to 160 kW.
The lineup will include models offering 130 km and 200 km pure-electric CLTC ranges, with the previous 75 km version reportedly discontinued.
Positioned as a plug-in hybrid midsize SUV, the Song L DM-i competes with models such as the Changan Qiyuan Q07 (priced 129,800 to 171,800 yuan / 17,500 to 23,100 USD) and Chery Fengyun T9 (132,900 to 183,900 yuan / 17,900 to 24,800 USD). According to sales data, BYD sold 10,161 units of the Song L DM-i in September 2025.
