BYD Auto Industry Co., Ltd. has filed recall plans with China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) to address potential safety concerns in two distinct vehicle series, totalling 115,783 units. The recalls, initiated following defect investigations by the SAMR, aim to rectify issues ranging from drive motor controller malfunctions to power battery sealing deficiencies.
The first recall, designated S2025M0165I, targets 44,535 units of the 2015 Tang series vehicles produced between March 28, 2015, and July 28, 2017. The issue stems from a component design and selection problem in the drive motor controller, which could lead to an abnormal active discharge function during use. In extreme cases, this could result in circuit board scorching and the failure of the vehicle’s pure electric drive mode, posing a safety risk. BYD authorised dealerships will update the software for affected vehicles, changing the discharge method to motor discharge to eliminate the safety hazard.
The second recall, designated S2025M0166I, affects 71,248 units of the Yuan Pro pure electric vehicles manufactured from February 6, 2021, to August 5, 2022. This recall addresses a manufacturing defect where the power battery sealing gasket may be improperly installed, leading to reduced sealing performance. Prolonged high-speed wading could result in water ingress into the power battery, compromising its insulation. In extreme scenarios, this could lead to a reduction in power battery output, presenting a safety hazard. To resolve this, BYD authorised dealerships will apply a special sealant to reinforce the power battery casing of the affected vehicles, restoring their waterproof function and eliminating the safety risk.

Owners of the affected vehicles are advised to contact their nearest BYD authorised dealership for the necessary free repairs.
Editor’s comment:
The 2015 Tang, as its name suggests, is a 2015 PHEV model. The Yuan Pro is a purely electric model launched in 2021, with the vehicles subject to this recall having been produced between 2021 and 2022.
