Mazda has confirmed that the Mazda 6e, the export version of the China-made Mazda EZ-6, will officially enter the Australian market in mid-2026. The model serves as Mazda’s new global mid-size electric sedan, following its European launch in 2025.

Mazda and Changan jointly developed the Mazda 6e as part of their long-running joint venture. It is built at the Changan-Mazda Nanjing Plant in China, where production began earlier this year.

According to Mazda, the 6e will share the same global quality standards and undergo both Chinese and European safety certification programs. The China-made version has already achieved five-star ratings in both C-NCAP and Euro NCAP-style evaluations.

The Mazda 6e mirrors the EZ-6 lineup offered in China, available in EV and EREV (range-extended electric) variants.

  • EV Version: powered by a rear-mounted 190 kW (255 hp) electric motor and offered with 56.1 kWh or 68.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate batteries. The CLTC range is 480 km and 600 km, respectively.
  • EREV Version: uses a 1.5L petrol engine as a generator with a 160 kW (215 hp) rear motor. Two battery packs—18.9 kWh and 28.4 kWh—offer pure-electric ranges of 130 km and 200 km, respectively, with a total range of up to 1,301 km under CLTC standards.

Charging times remain consistent with the China-market model, taking around 15–20 minutes to charge from 30% to 80% using fast charging.

Designed under Mazda’s “Kodo: Soul of Motion” philosophy, the Mazda 6e features a sleek coupe-like silhouette with frameless doors, hidden handles, and an illuminated grille. The rear carries a subtle integrated spoiler, echoing design themes seen in newer global Mazda models.

Inside, the sedan offers a digital cockpit with a 14.6-inch centre display, 50-inch head-up display, and a 14-speaker Sony audio system. The trunk capacity is 350 litres.

After its rollout in China as the EZ-6 in October 2024, the Mazda 6e marks Mazda’s first China-developed EV to be sold globally. In China, the EZ-6 is priced between 139,800 and 179,800 yuan (19,200 – 24,700 USD). Local production allows Mazda to offer competitive pricing and standardised safety performance for export markets.

The Mazda 6e starts at approximately €44,900 (52,300 USD) in Germany for the base ‘Takumi’ trim, with higher trims like the ‘Takumi Plus’ costing around €46,900 (54,600 USD). In the UK, the estimated starting price is around £42,000 (55,900 USD).
