Smart #5 EHD enters market starting at 26,700 USD: Geely NordThor Hybrid 2.0, 3C CATL battery
On October 28, Smart officially launched its Smart #5 EHD five-seater SUV, available in four trims with a price range of 189,900 to 239,900 yuan (26,700 to 33,800 USD). As the brand’s first plug-in hybrid model, the Smart #5 EHD is equipped with Geely’s NordThor Hybrid 2.0 technology, boasting two pure electric ranges of 120 km and 252 km as well as combined ranges of 1,483 km and 1,615 km.
In the front, the headlights contain 328 LED units and can intelligently adjust the lighting range according to signals from the advanced driving assistance system.
The taillights contain 196 ultra-red LED units with a wavelength of 625 nm.
In terms of safety, the onboard smart Pilot Assist system is supported by a roof lidar, 12 cameras, five millimeter-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic radars. The system can realize functions such as high-speed and urban NOA without relying on a high-definition map.
The Smart #5 EHD is also the brand’s largest model to date. Positioned as a mid-size SUV, the Smart #5 EHD has dimensions of 4705/1920/1710 mm and a wheelbase of 2900 mm, which is 5 mm taller than the BEV variant.
The powertrain comes from Geely’s NordThor Hybrid 2.0 technology, consisting of a1.5T engine and a front permanent magnet synchronous motor, mated to a 3DHT Evo. The engine outputs a maximum power of 120 kW (161 hp) and a peak torque of 255 Nm while the electric motor generates 200 kW (268 hp) and 380 Nm.
Two 3C ternary lithium battery packs from CATL are offered: 20 kWh and 41.46 kWh, providing a CLTC pure electric range of 120 km and 252 km, respectively. The comprehensive ranges are 1,483 km and 1,615 km.
Under fast charging, recharging the battery from 10% to 80% takes less than 20 minutes.
Inside, the cockpit is powered by an AMD V2000 chip and features a 10.3-inch full LCD instrument panel and dual 13-inch 2.5K screens, which can be linked to a 25.6-inch AR-HUD. At the same time, chrome accents are incorporated throughout the interior.
Other configurations include an optional Sennheiser audio system, 256-color ambient lights, a 625 L trunk (which can be expanded to 1,525 L after folding down the rear seats), snd seven standard airbags.
