CATL,GAC Aion and JD.com partner for Aion UT Super: a compact EV with 99-second battery swap
GAC Aion has officially announced the rollout of the first Aion UT Super, dubbed the “Super National Good Car”. This new model, a battery-swappable version of the Aion UT, is a collaborative effort between GAC Group, CATL, and JD.com, and will be exclusively sold on JD.com, which can be seen as the Chinese Amazon.com.
The Aion UT Super is equipped with CATL’s “Chocolate Battery,” offering “charge, swap, or rent” option. Drivers can enjoy a 500-kilometre range and utilise the “Chocolate Battery Swap Station” for a full battery replacement in 99 seconds.
Visually, the Aion UT Super largely mirrors the design of the existing 2025 Aion UT. It features a 5-door, 5-seat hatchback body structure, positioning it as a pure electric compact car. The vehicle will be available with three-colour body wraps. The front bumper is equipped with “four-point array” lighting on both sides, while the central area features diagonally arranged ventilation slots.
From the side, the Aion UT Super boasts semi-hidden door handles and blacked-out exterior mirrors. The C-pillar area is adorned with body-colored decorative elements. Dimensions are consistent with the current Aion UT, measuring 4270mm in length, 1850mm in width, and 1575mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2750mm. The wheel design is identical to the top-spec 420 Smart Edition of the 2025 Aion UT, featuring 17-inch rims and 215/55 R17 tyres. The rear of the Aion UT Super is sleek and flat, with a rear spoiler and high-mounted brake light on the roof. The taillights also incorporate the “four-point array” lighting structure.
According to previously disclosed Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) declaration information, the Aion UT Super is powered by an electric motor with a maximum output of 100 kW (134 hp), consistent with the 2025 model. It is equipped with a CATL-supplied lithium iron phosphate battery with a capacity of 54.036 kWh, providing a 500-kilometre range.
The Aion UT Super is estimated to be priced between 100,000 and 120,000 yuan (14,000 and 16,800 USD) and is slated for an official launch and sale during the Chinese “11.11” shopping festival.
