Xpeng officially unveiled the range-extended electric vehicle (EREV) version of its X9 MPV tonight, commencing pre-sales with a starting price of 1602 Max at 350,000 yuan (49,000 USD) and 1602 Ultra at 370,000 yuan (51,800 USD).

The X9 EREV builds upon the pure electric variant, integrating Xpeng’s “Kunpeng Super Range Extension Technology.” This system features an 800V high-voltage platform and 5C fast-charging capabilities. Under CLTC conditions, the EREV model boasts a pure electric range of 452 km and a combined range of 1602 km.

Visually, the EREV variant distinguishes itself with a larger front grille to accommodate the range extender, complemented by a dual-segment active grille and cooling vents below. A new “Aurora Green” exterior colour has been introduced, while other design elements remain consistent with the pure electric model.

The front.

From the side, the X9 EREV retains its hidden pillar design, creating a floating roof effect that also contributes to a lower drag coefficient. Flared wheel arches house 20-inch multi-spoke wheels. The EREV model sees a slight increase in length compared to its pure electric counterpart, measuring 5316 mm long, 1988 mm wide, and 1785 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3160 mm. The rear continues to feature a large, borderless rear window and a sleek, sloped design.

Inside, the Xpeng X9 EREV showcases a classic T-shaped dashboard layout with a new “Cloud Rose Brown” two-tone colour scheme. The cabin is 100% soft-wrapped and adorned with 4.2 meters of imported Ayous real wood. It retains the 17.3-inch central control screen and 10.25-inch LCD instrument cluster, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P cockpit chip. The centre console features two 50W wireless charging pads for device charging. The steering wheel maintains its two-spoke design, and gear selection is handled via a column shifter.

The rear.

The X9 EREV is equipped with a “dome starlight” ambient lighting system and AI aviation reading lights. The second row features independent seats with zero-gravity mode, massage, ventilation, and heating functions. Additionally, a 21.4-inch entertainment screen is provided for second-row passengers. The third-row seats offer adjustable positions, foldable backrests, and a 4/6 split-folding mechanism.

Powering the X9 EREV is Xpeng’s “Kunpeng Super Range Extension System,” which combines a 1.5T range extender with a maximum power output of 110 kW and an electric motor delivering 210 kW (282 hp). It is equipped with a 63.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate 5C battery pack and a 60-litre fuel tank. Under CLTC conditions, the vehicle achieves a pure electric range of 452 km and a combined range of 1602 km, with a fuel consumption of 6.4 L/100km.
