BYD’s luxury sub-brand, Denza, is advancing its first high-performance supercar, the Denza Z, which is currently undergoing testing at the Nürburgring in Germany. The confirmation came from Denza General Manager Li Hui, who posted on Chinese social media today that “our supercar Denza Z is now running on the Nürburgring track in Europe. As a high-performance supercar, the Denza Z represents the dedicated work of thousands of engineers and is a top-level creation.”

This is the first official statement from Denza executives regarding the overseas testing of the model, following spy photos from late October that showed the car undergoing high-speed trials at the famous German circuit. The prototype appeared in full camouflage, featuring a sharp aerodynamic design with dual “L” and “V”-shaped LED light bars, a large front bumper with three air intakes, and an extended front splitter. The front fenders carry triple cooling vents, behind which sit massive brake callipers and rotors.

The Denza Z’s hood includes additional venting for drivetrain cooling, while aerodynamic openings can also be seen around the wheel arches and side skirts. The rear is dominated by a large fixed wing, underlining the car’s focus on downforce and track performance.

The Denza Z was first revealed as a concept at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, styled by Wolfgang Egger, a former Audi design chief. It is reportedly set to adopt BYD’s Disus-M intelligent magnetic-fluid suspension and a steer-by-wire system. Another innovation is China’s first fully self-developed “embedded foldable steering wheel.”

Yesterday, automotive designer @SugarDesign shared spy photos of a Denza Z convertible version with a soft-top roof and four-seat configuration, suggesting that multiple body styles are in development.

It has been speculated that it could deliver more than 1,000 horsepower, positioning the Denza Z as a Chinese rival to models like the Porsche 911 Turbo S and other electric sports cars.
